Le Marcade – Location
Le Marcade is to be found about 3 km from the village of Montesquiou up a small country lane just off the D34 in the direction of Vic Fezensac.
Surrounded by fields, the house is situated in its own grounds and enjoys beautiful views to the South and East over the rolling countryside and with the snow covered peaks of the Pyrenees often to be seen in the distance.
Montesquiou itself is situated more or less at the centre of the Department of Gers, one of the 8 Departments making up the region of Midi Pyrenees, located in the South West of France between the Atlantic and the Pyrenees.
The Village of Montesquiou is a picturesque medieval fortified village which still retains its original old gateway and some of the fortifications. This was the home of the dukes of Montesquiou and the birthplace of the mother of D’Artagnan who himself was born not far away at Lupiac.
The village offers a delightful restaurant for lunches during the week where a 4 course meal with wine will set you back all of 13 euros a head. The local butcher can supply fresh vegetables and bread as well as most household essentials and is open every day except Monday. There is also a very good dispensing chemist, Post Office with cash machine, Doctor and small hairdressing salon.
For more extensive shopping including weekly markets a 15 –20 minute drive will bring you to both Mirande and Vic Fezensac. Both these towns have excellent shopping facilities with a host of stores, boutiques and cafes surrounding the main squares and supermarkets on the outskirts.
