Le Marcade – Interior

The Accomodation

Le Marcade has been designed to be an up-to-date, comfortable and cosy home to suit both modern and traditional tastes.  Here in the quiet French countryside you can relax, recuperate and enjoy your holiday.

The  house was sympathetically modernised in 2011 but you will still find many of the original features retained along side the modern facilities which we hope will make your stay feel like home from home.

The interior has been decorated simply with white washed walls and linen fabrics which, together with the furnishings, we hope captures the essence of French living. The bedrooms all have chestnut flooring whilst the salon  and kitchen have their original mosaic floor and quarry tiles.  All the windows are fitted with insect screens and the original shutters so you can keep the house cool during the summer and snug in the winter.

Walking into the farmhouse you will find yourself in a double vestibule; off to the left is the salon, straight ahead takes you into the second hallway where you will be able to store coats and outdoor shoes, and to the right is the  kitchen/breakfast room.    This pretty hallway features its original colombage.

Kitchen / Breakfast room:

The family-sized kitchen was fully refitted in 2011 and  has all the mod cons for preparing either a simple lunch or a dinner party. The focus of the kitchen is the large open fireplace which features the original bread oven and we have also installed a wood burning stove which in the winter provides a lovely warm backdrop and is perfect for keeping warm  a pot of home made soup or stew.

In the centre of the room there is a large dining table which comfortably seats 8 adults, and to the corner you will find the old stone sink and a perfect little space to sit in the armchairs and enjoy a coffee and a croissant. The kitchen is fully equipped with Smeg branded appliances, electric hob, oven, microwave, dishwasher, as well as kettle, toaster, cafetiere and filter coffee maker.

The kitchen is kitted out with all the  gadgets you should need to prepare gourmet delights   and the serving equipment can be found in the large French dresser. The views from the kitchen look out on one side onto the rose garden and across the fields towards the Pyrenees whose snow capped peaks can often  still be seen in June and July. Then on the other side  the views  look down the garden, over a lawned sitting area and then over the swimming pool with extensive views of fields and valleys  beyond.

The salon has comfortable sofas with side tables and a centre coffee table.  Seating for 8, with a Panasonic flat screen TV and a DVD player.  A selection of CD’s and DVD ‘s are available along with books and games for the children. With views over the rose garden this snug room is central to the house with the bedrooms leading off from here.

Bedrooms & bathrooms:
Bedroom 1 is a beautifully light double bedroom with an antique brass bed and plenty of clothes storage space in the curtained wardrobe and  chest of drawers. The room looks out on to the old stables and the rose garden capturing the wonderful sunrises.  This is a perfect room if you have young children since it is accessed through Bedroom 2, the children’s room, thus allowing young children to be close to hand but without being in the same room.

Bedroom 2 is decorated in blues, lilacs and greens with children in mind. There is a full sized single bed and there is a choice of either a cot or a further child’s single bed. You will need to confirm your requirements for this bedroom’s sleeping arrangements when booking. The room has its  original fireplace and there is storage for children’s clothes.  This bedroom also looks out towards the old stables and the rose garden.

Bedroom 3 has 2 single beds and there is enough space to add an additional cot in this room if required. Decorated in a pale blue and cream toile du jour with French styled furniture this is a calm and relaxing room.

The master bedroom 4 with its en-suite bathroom is situated off the salon down a couple of steps. Here there is a king size canopied bed with  bedside tables each side, a large double wardrobe and a dressing table. Decorated in an oriental theme the bedroom leads into the en-suite bathroom with wet-room style walk-in shower, sink, toilet and large bath to relax in perhaps with candles and maybe even a glass of the local wine.

Our family bathroom next door is equipped with a sink, large bath and again a wet-room style walk in shower and both bathrooms have heated towel rails. There is also a separate loo next door with a small hand basin.

Each bedroom is equipped with a hair dryer and  radio alarm clocks with docking stations suitable for

Babies and toddlers:
Having travelled frequently with our own children and grandchildren we know just how much “stuff ” you need!  So for guests with children and/or grandchildren we have endeavoured to provide everything you need for young babies and toddlers – changing table and mat, baby bath, potty, baby monitor and baby bouncer.  In the kitchen you will find a high chair, microwave steriliser, plates, bowls, children’s cutlery, drinking beakers and a baby food processor. We can also provide an additional cot, high chair and  baby stroller on request.
