Le Marcade – How to get there

Whether you choose to drive over in your own car or fly and hire we will provide you with full instructions as to how to get here. Travel by train using the French high speed TGV  is a possibility with regular services to Auch but car hire here is not as straightforward as from the various airports serving the Gers.

Here are some recommendations based upon our own experiences.

Travel by Road

The least expensive option is the Newhaven – Dieppe route using LD Lines (Transmanche Ferries). This is a 4 hour crossing followed by a drive of 9 – 10 hours. The route from Dieppe is South to Rouen and then down via Chartres to Orleans.  This is slightly slower than following the Satnav route via Paris but it avoids the heavy traffic and some of the Motorway tolls.  From Orleans it is motorway all the way down to Montauban where you leave the A20 at Exit 64 Montauban South and follow the signs for D928 Auch.

The next option is the overnight crossing from Portsmouth to St Malo with Brittany Ferries which sets you off on your way by 08.30 in the morning. Though somewhat more expensive the cabins and facilities are excellent and you will commence your journey fully refreshed. The route takes you South via Rennes and Nantes down to Bordeaux where you branch off onto the A62 to Agen and exit No 6 Aiguillon, following the route via Lavardac and Condom to Montesquiou. This drive is 7 – 8 hours.

The third option is the 24 hour crossing from Portsmouth to Bilbao also  with Brittany Ferries.  The vessels are truly excellent with every facility including cinema and swimming pool and the crossing can be great fun for all the family. The main advantage at the end is that you only have a 3.5 to 4 hour drive to Montesquiou. The route here takes you from Bilbao via San Sebastien onto the A64 motorway in France past Pau and leaving at exit no. 13 Tarbes Est  with direction N21 Auch.

The 2 most convenient airports for the Gers are Toulouse and Pau. Both are approx 1hour and 20 minutes drive away. Bergerac, Bordeaux and Carcassonne are all also possibilities but  the drive will be around 2 and a half hours.
